Join us as authors Darcy Whitecrow and Heather M. O’Connor share the history of the Ojibwe Horse and their new picture book Runs with the Stars. Meet Abbey Gardens’ own Ojibwe Horses, Maple & Sammy and complete a horse-themed craft.

Saturday June 18th from 10am-12pm at the pony paddock. Event is by donation with proceeds going towards the educational programming and care of our ponies. Copies of “Runs with the Stars” and Abbey Gardens’ Ojibwe Horse-themed colouring books will be available to purchase at the event.

As they await the birth of a new foal, a man teaches his grandchild about the Ojibwe Horses that used to roam the forests of northwestern Ontario. The horses once ran wild and free, but when Grandfather was a boy, they almost disappeared. Now he is the caretaker of his own small herd, keeping the breed alive for future generations and teaching his grandchild about the loving bond between human and animals.
