Description
Young people today face challenges ranging from cyber bullying to social media peer pressure and everything in between. This half day workshop for youth on Saturday August 2nd from 9:30am-12:30pm is designed to encourage and empower young people with a focus on the skills they need to successfully cope with these challenges. Designed and facilitated by an equine education specialist and a registered psychotherapist/child and youth counsellor, the focus is on fun using our influential equine teachers Sammy, Maple and Flapjack. Working in teams, participants will join in horse focused activities diversified with powerful Equine Assisted Learning sessions. They will set goals and learn to increase confidence, mindfulness, creative problem-solving abilities and coping skills to face today’s social pressures.
Neat fact, Maple and Sammy, also known by their Ojibwe names Akoozi and Wawasum, are critically endangered Ojibwe Spirit Horses. This experience gives participants the rare opportunity to look into the eyes of these beautiful animals and give them a hug! Yes, Flapjack has beautiful eyes as well and really likes hugs too. He may not be rare in breed, but he sure is in personality!
Please note that all participants must wear sturdy closed toed shoes…no sandals! All activities are on-ground, there is no riding.
